When the ancient evil of the Blackbringer rises to unmake the world, only one determined faerie stands in its way. However, Magpie Windwitch, granddaughter of the West Wind, is not like other faeries. While her kind live in seclusion deep in the forests of Dreamdark, she's devoted her life to tracking down and recapturing devils escaped from their ancient bottles, just as her hero, the legendary Bellatrix, did 25,000 years ago. With her faithful gang of crows, she travels the world fighting where others would choose to flee. But when a devil escapes from a bottle sealed by the ancient Djinn King himself—the creator of the world—she may be in over her head. How can a single faerie, even with the help of her friends, hope to defeat the impenetrable darkness of the Blackbringer?
Where do I start on this book? I absolutely LOVED it! Magpie Windwitch, or "Pie", granddaughter of the West Wind, devil hunter and fairie, is the fearless main character of the book. She is tough, an awesome fighter, and loyal to her "family" of crows. The story opens with Magpie finding a broken seal, from which a horrible "devil" has escaped from. The devil is known as the worst and most dangerous devil known to Dreamdark. The Blackbringer. Magpie is suddenly thrown into the adventure of her life, finding her true destiny along the way, and unlocking secrets long kept hidden through the ages. What can one small fairie do to save the world? More than she knows. Joined by some wonderful characters, including a fairie who can't fly,(I love Talon!) and her faithful family of crows, Magpie must defeat the Blackbringer and bring peace back to Dreamdark and the world.
The world this author has created is amazing. I loved the language of the book, the story, and the wonderful characters. The villain is powerful, and scary, and the heroes are brave and true. The sequel will hopefully be out this year, and I am just itching to read it! Wonderful novel, clean, fun, a book any fantasy lover will have a hard time putting down!
